On April 27 and June 1, 2026, in Hall 113 of the Center of Excellence UNITe, the two stages of the course project defenses for the course “Analysis and Design of Information Systems” were held for third-year students majoring in “Information Systems” at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
The students worked in teams of 12–13 people on six projects focused on current environmental issues and water resource management in Bulgaria. The projects covered information systems for the management and monitoring of beaches, the protection of underwater cultural heritage, the monitoring of river levels and water quality, as well as solutions for the management of fishing zones and fisheries in the context of environmental security.
The projects were evaluated by a faculty panel consisting of Prof. Kalinka Kaloyanova, Ph.D., and Senior Assistant Professor Maria Koleva, Ph.D. During their presentations, the students demonstrated a high level of preparation and confidently presented their projects, answering questions related to the analysis, design, and functionality of the systems they had developed. The instructors offered recommendations for improving specific aspects of the projects, with the feedback focused on correcting errors and helping participants acquire knowledge and skills that will be useful for their future professional development.
All teams successfully defended their projects, demonstrating teamwork skills, the application of theoretical knowledge, and the development of modern information systems that address solutions to significant environmental issues.
